Universiti Malaya students win Asian region competition in France by Vinci Construction
Our Students Win the Asian Region Compettition of The Trail Organized by Vinci Construction, France

The international competition “The Trail” was organized by Vinci Construction (based in Paris, France) and a total of seven teams (each team consisted of 4 students lead by one PG student, expect one team in which all 4 members were from UG students) participated from Department of Civil Engineering. The competition required participants to propose solutions to overcome the challenges faced in the construction industry. The team members from Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, UM as follows:

  • Ng Connie (Master of Engineering Science student)- Team Leader
  • Siti Syazwani binti Mokhtar (3rd Year-Undergraduate Civil Engineering student)
  • Elham Khalil Sarip (3rd Year Undergraduate Civil Engineering student)
  • Lawrence Kuan Teik Seng (3rd Year Undergraduate Civil Engineering student)

The trail comprises of two (2) parts as follows:

  • Part 1: an online challenge on Agorize platform to attract and where they can submit their innovative projects “Imagine the construction industry of tomorrow”
  • Part 2: an outdoors sports challenge to take placee in Annecy, France

Among the 49 teams participated from Asia, a total of 3 teams from Asia as mentioned below were shortlisted for the selection of Asian winner, I.e. Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (Vietnam), Nanyang Technology University (Singapore) and University of Malaya (Malaysia). The selected three teams presented their proposal to the jury in Singapore on 27th April 2018 to get selected for the best team among the shortlisted teams.

The awarded team was to fly to France for The Final Award Ceremony on 17-18 May 2018 to compete with representatives from other regions. After the judging session, the “Lego Green” team from University of Malaya was declared the winner of Asian region and was invited for the International Finale ‘The Trail’ in Paris, France.

The teams from Columbia, Poland, UK, Czech Republic, France, Niger, Uganda, Australia, Canada and Malaysia were required to present their 5 minute pitch in front the juries. After the pitching, all teams were sent to Annecy to prepare for the sport challenge. On 18th May 2018, all the teams were required to compete in 3 sports event which is running, cycling and rafting. After the sports event, all participants were awarded wih a medal and the top 3 teams were announced.
