Allianz Malaysia And UM Collaborate To Promote Good Governance

KUALA LUMPUR, 10 DECEMBER 2024: Allianz Malaysia Bhd and Universiti Malaya (UM) today launched the Allianz Centre for Governance (ACFG) hosted by the Faculty of Business and Economics to conduct academic research and facilitate public engagement on governance-related areas such as business integrity and reforms, according to a press release dated Dec 10 distributed by Allianz Malaysia.

The launch, which coincided with the International Anti-Corruption Day which falls on Dec 9, took place at the Za’ba Memorial Library.

“This initiative reflects our understanding that large organisations like Allianz must lead by example, collaborating with governments, businesses, civil society, and the media to create meaningful change,” said Anusha Thavarajah, Regional Chief Executive Officer of Allianz Asia Pacific.

Meanwhile, UM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International), Professor Dr Yatimah Alias said that the establishment of the ACFG would further accelerate efforts to enhance the quality of governance, ensuring continued transparency, adding that the collaboration will foster a strong synergy to jointly achieve the envisioned mission.

Prior to the establishment of the Centre, Allianz Malaysia has already taken several measures within the organisation to advocate good governance to uphold integral business practices such as Allianz Road Rangers and Panel Workshop Revamp.

Allianza Road Rangers, launched in 2017, promotes a fair and transparent claims process for motor insurance customers, safeguarding them from exploitative practices and mitigating the risk of motor insurance fraud. In addition, the revamp of panel workshop in 2020 has seen the adoption of an open tender process to select car mechanics to enhance transparency and service standards within the motor claims process.

“Research-driven solutions, informed by data and expert analysis, are far more likely to lead to effective anti-corruption measures than reactive policies based on political pressure or popular sentiment,” said Sean Wang, Chief Executive Officer of Allianz Malaysia.

Allianz Malaysia is an investment holding company and a subsidiary of Allianz SE that operates through two insurance subsidiaries, namely Allianz General Insurance Company (Malaysia) Bhd and Allianz Life Insurance Malaysia Bhd. Allianz General offers a broad range of services across personal lines, small to medium enterprises, and large industrial risks. For the 2023 financial year, Allianz General’s gross written premiums (GWP) reached RM3.00 billion. Allianz Life, on the other hand, offers a comprehensive range of life and health insurance products, as well as investment-linked products. For the 2023 financial year, Allianz Life recorded a GWP of RM3.54 billion. Allianz Malaysia operates 30 branches nationwide.
